Community Coffee- Special Education Parental Rights, Advocacy, and Self Care

DEF is partnering with Robyn Painter and Jody Lev to provide you with the information you need to advocate for your child and to take care of yourself. This event will be held Sunday, May 3rd from 10-11:30am at The Intown Retreat (102 Church St, Decatur, GA).

Robyn Painter is an attorney with more than 20 years of experience in education law, complex litigation, criminal defense, civil rights and employment law, regulatory affairs, appellate matters, and mental health law. She is also a parent of three wonderful, unique children: a child with significant learning differences, a transgender child, and a gifted child who moves to their own beat. Robyn cares deeply about individual people’s rights, educational accessibility, and making sure her clients’ voices are heard. She is passionate about education and loves providing guidance and advocacy for parents and institutions. Through her legal career, she has observed first‐hand that equitably providing students with what they need to be successful can avoid a host of negative outcomes that squander the human potential available to our society.

Judy Lev is a licensed clinical social worker with over 23 years of experience supporting children, families, and adults navigating complex emotional, developmental, and life challenges. She is also a parent, and she deeply understands the worry, the pressures, the hope, the moments of disconnection, and the fierce desire to show up differently for our kids than we sometimes feel able to. She believes that parents deserve support, healing, and space for themselves, too. In her private practice, she helps parents heal the parts of themselves that get activated in parenting, so they can show up in ways that feel more aligned, connected, and sustainable.
